I'm having a huge sale on my shopper totes this week. These totes are hand screen printed in my Brisbane studio. The totes are usually $15 but for this week all totes are only $8. Styles include: 'Keep Calm and Carry On Shopping', 'Economy is in Peril Spend With All Your Might', 'Silence is Golden', 'Ignorance is Bliss' and 'Knowledge is Power'. Visit the Jaime Beattie website to see all the styles. Be quick, they are selling fast!
I am very happy to finally show you my new collection 'The Way We Were'. I hope you like them!
Taking inspiration from the shapes and textures of nature, 'The Way We Were', features natural fibres such as organic cotton, hemp and yak’s wool, soft leather trim, Australian hard woods and smooth hand-cast resin stones.
The collection is available in two colourways. “Drift” brings together warm beige and coffee tones offset by richly stained Tasmanian Oak which has been inlaid with chocolate and ivory marbled resin stones. The “Shell” colourway reduces colour to a minimum in a simple palette of arctic white and creamy vanilla. Featuring super high-gloss Silky Oak panels inlaid with ivory and clear resin stones.
The inherent uniqueness of each of the materials used results in each piece in the range being like none other. The natural slubs and weave of the fabric, the grain of the timber and the pouring of the resin stones each contribute to a truly unique accessory. Over time even the hue of the timber will change with age, for example, silky oak takes on a golden honey glow. The timber panels and resin stones for accessories are made in Queensland by a
skilled artisan, just for us.
Because of the materials used, each bag in this collection will be individually made to order in our studio. Visit the Jaime Beattie website for more details or to order.
I was very excited to see my Make Hay tote bag in the latest issue of Real Living Magazine. Thanks RL! You can shop for Jaime Beattie shopper totes on my website and in my etsy shop. And, don't forget - all sales until the end of May 2010 will be donated to CF Australia. Buy one for Mother's Day and it will be like you're giving twice. :)
A little while ago I had the pleasure of (email) meeting Vanessa Adao, founder of the fabulous charitable organisation, Kindle My Heart. Read my blog post about it here. I have just completed an interview for Vanessa's beautiful blog A Casa Da Va. So if you're interested in finding out more about me, click here. Thanks Vanessa!
Just added to my etsy shop - a poster version of my 'Economy is in Peril Spend With All Your Might' design. Shop here.
I can't remember how old I was, but I remember there came a time when I realised that my Mother was always right.
In this day and age, when society appears to be getting ruder and more selfish all the time, it doesn't hurt to be reminded of the little pearls of wisdom passed down from our Mothers.
Besides, good manners never go out of style!
So here it is! My new tote collection, 'My Mamma Said...' features 8 adages, each in 5 new colourways: natural/pink, natural/teal, natural/orange, black /copper and blue/silver.
All the totes are available now on my website and will be added to the etsy store soon.
Just added to my website and etsy store - my new 'I heart Tokyo' tote. It features the names of some of my favourite Tokyo prefectures and is available in Natural/Red (pictured), Natural/Black and Black/White. And stay tuned, tomorrow I'll be showing you my new tote collection, 'My mamma said..'.
I've been a fashion accessories designer for just over 5 years and the one thing that I know for certain about this industry is that its really hard to do everything yourself. One of the big issues for me as a designer is getting really good quality, nicely styled images of my work. I think is probably common for a lot of designers - it takes a lot of time to put a great shoot together and professional photo shoots are very expensive.
On the flipside, I'm sure there are a lot of 'emerging' photographers, models, hair & make up artists and stylists out there who are looking for an opportunity to break into the fashion industry or build up their portfolio. So.... let's get together and help each other out.
I'm calling for any Brisbane (and Sunshine Coast/Gold Coast) photographers, models, hair & make up artists, stylists and designers who would like to collaborate in photo shoots to contact me. Follow this link.
A couple of my recessionista totes were included in The Tribune's MBFF runway show this week. Also featured was Michelle Freer's fabulous acrylic jewellery.
Today marks 5 years since I made my first sale of bags and purses. I nervously posted them to Hunter Gatherer in Melbourne wondering if anyone would buy them. As it turns out they sold out in about 2 weeks and I was madly making more for their next order.
A lot has happened in the 5 years since then and I feel a lot wiser (and sometimes a bit more cynical) than when I first started out. I am really excited about the direction I'm taking the label and there are a lot of changes in the pipeline. But right now I'm celebrating the 5th anniversary of my Jaime Beattie label with a huge sale. Discounts start at 25% and go to a whopping 60% so visit the website to start shopping!
Have a great weekend!
Sunday was a good day. For the first time I didn't go to the Young Designer's Market but my totes being in the Sunday Magazine more than made up for it. Some of the colours have sold out but there will be more coming.
My totes have been popping up everywhere lately. Latest press in The Skinny, Scotland's biggest free arts and entertainment magazine and Brisbane's Courier Mail.
And thank you to everyone who left a comment in the Blog Giveaway - you all get a postcard and magnet. I've sent out emails but because Google ID doesn't work properly with the Typepad comments I'm not sure if everyone will get their email. So if you left a comment in the last post please email me at jaime [at] jaimebeattie [dot] com [dot] au with the name and address you would like the giveaway sent to. Cheers!
My apologies for being so silent this week - have been incredibly busy. Not all work though, managed to make time to get dressed up and go to the premiere of the new movie, Coco Avant Chanel. We were treated to some of my favourite things - sushi, champagne and Krispy Kreme donuts. Although I don't usually have them at the same time, was very indulgent nonetheless.
Anyway, I thought it was about time we had a little giveaway. If you would like one of my Keep Calm and Carry On Shopping postcards and magnet please leave a comment to this post. I have 10 sets to giveaway. Entries close Tuesday 30 June 2009. If there are more than 10 entries, winners will be drawn at random.
ETA: if you sign in with your Google account to leave a comment, please put your name in the comment also otherwise I can't see who you are. Cheers!
My latest piece of press is in the July 09 issue of Danish magazine, BoligLiv.
Translation:
Statements on clothing and bags are a hit this summer, so with a politically correct shopping in canvas signals you both environmental and fashion consciousness. Shop you out of the crisis with beautiful things from Australian Jamie Beattie - you are at least not ruined by the network, which costs about. 60 DKK plus shipping to Denmark of approx. 20 kr
Thanks Google. You get the idea.
