Cosy Home

H_is_for_home
Its cold (well, Queensland cold which is about 14°C) and rainy here so these cosy cup warmers are looking really good right now. They are from H is for Home, a fabulous UK based online store selling unusual, quirky, one off, handmade and vintage goodies for your home. Hot chocolate with marshmallows anyone?

My Poppet

Mypoppet
Cintia from My Poppet emailed me about her Melbourne based children's store last week and I'm so glad she did. My Poppet has a fabulous selection of goodies for kids like handmade clothing and toys, hand printed t-shirts, retro inspired toys and original artwork. If you're not in Melbourne, have no fear Cinti offers a mailout service, but stocks are limited so you have to be quick. Definitely a site to bookmark for Christmas gift ideas (I'm always thinking ahead!).

Charmed, I'm sure

Charmingwall

There's no excuse these days for not having cool art in your home. It used to be that if you had less than $100 to spend on artwork you would have to resort to scratching through the mass-produced 'art prints' in the homewares department of Target. Not anymore.

New York based gallery, Charmingwall, has set about finding some of the coolest artists around just so that you can surround yourself with cool yet affordable art. These prints start at just US$20 and if you are lazy (like me) I suggest you pay a bit extra for them to frame the prints for you. Art can also make a great gift, although I am dead against giving someone a piece of art unless you really know their taste. The lovely Charmingwall people have a selection of gift certificates so you don't have to worry about your favourite print sitting in the back of someone's wardrobe. Besides, half the fun of buying art is in the choosing so it makes your gift even better.

6 things I'd rather buy than a car battery...

This morning I had the displeasure of having to fork out for a new car battery. Its one of those things, like buying a vacuum cleaner, you know you need it but you really don't want to have to part with the money to get one. I resent having to spend money on essential yet boring things. So, here are...

Car_battery

1. Liberte Eau De Toilette Spray by Cacharel from Fresh Fragrances and Cosmetics (A$115.00)
2. Anya zip coin purse from Oroton (A$45.00)
3. Makepeace heels from Nine West (on sale - A$59.00)
4. Hard Luck Dot Shift by Zimmermann from Frock Shop (on sale - $A139.50)
5. Silk Bow Detail Blouse from Witchery (A$129.95)
6. Boulder bangle in Ivory from Dinosaur Designs (A$105.00)

Carolina Bucci Cuff

Carolina_bucci_cuff
This gorgeous looking bracelet cuff is actually handwoven in Italy on a traditional loom using solid 18ct yellow gold threads and red silk. Of course, it comes with a £2,960 price tag, but I think its worth it. This elegant Carolina Bucci cuff comes in two other designs and are available at Astley Clarke.

Cool girl, Neryl

You know, I think that some people are just born cool. At school they weren't necessarily the cheerleader, "popular" girl with the blonde pony tail and loads of boyfriends. But they were cool, listening to the Ramones and The Cure and doodling pictures all over the front of their Geography book. I imagine Neryl Walker was one of those cool people.

Neryl_walker

Neryl grew up to be an artist and illustrator with clients like Bloom Cosmetics, Shiseido, Roxy, Coca Cola, Nippon Vogue, New York magazine, Cleo, Cosmopolitan, Chronicle Books and Harper Collins. She also plays in a couple of bands and who knows what other cool stuff. Her drawings are mainly of hot, sexy women with hardly any clothes on which remind me of a 1960s Carry On film. You can buy Neryl Walker prints at Click for Art or check out her website and blog.

Meanwhile the cheerleader has 3 kids and is in charge of the school canteen on Thursdays.

Tim Walker

Tim_walker

This limited edition poster, Dress Lamp Tree by Tim Walker, was produced exclusively for the Design Museum Shop as part of the Design Museum's current exhibition, Tim Walker - Pictures. Its kind of surreal and magical. A bit like the Stepford Wives have run off with Peter Pan. You can buy it (and a few other Tim Walker goodies) online at the Design Museum Shop.

Meet Luca...

Luca

Here he is, hiding in the garden. Its Luca the Lion my Softies for Mirabel entry. I have no idea if I'm way too late but he'll be making his way to Pip today.

Regular readers will know that I started making a turtle for my Mirabel entry. Unfortunately, the poor turtle requires more adjustments, his legs/feet are too long and seem to stick out at awkward angles and his head actually looks better around the wrong way. The poor thing needs a bit of an overhaul and I don't have the time or the patience to do it right now. So, along came Luca. He's a cuddly little lion who loves to chase butterflies and nibble clover. My kids love him so I'll be making some little lion friends eventually. I'll post pictures of them.
